POWER INDUSTRY

Filmax specializes in manufacturing state-of-the-art filters and oil filtration systems for the power industry. Since 1992, our products, customer service, and technical support have enabled us to provide over seven thousand machines throughout North America and internationally. Filmax filtration systems indefinitely extend the component life of arcing load tap changers (LTCs) and voltage regulators while maintaining cleanliness levels several grades cleaner than brand-new oil.

Filmax manufactures systems specifically designed to remove moisture from transformers to less than 5 ppm. Contact a Filmax expert to discuss our impressive line of industry-specific equipment and filters designed for online load tap changers, voltage regulators, oil circuit breakers, and main tank transformers.

HOW DOES YOUR LTC LOOK AFTER 12,000 OPERATIONS?

6 MONTHS WITH FILMAX

After six months of using the Filmax filtration system, oil analysis from Bank #2 showed that the oil equaled or exceeded the specifications of the new oil at the beginning of the test. In addition, the oil analysis revealed a reduction in acid levels, indicating that oxidation was prevented throughout the test. Most importantly, visual inspection of Bank #2 showed no carbon buildup in the reservoir, no varnish (filming) on the contacts, and no further scorching or wear occurred during the test. Varnish or filming is a direct byproduct of oxidation, which causes carbon particles to stick to surfaces it has covered, in this case, the contacts. The buildup of carbon on LTC contacts causes increased arcing, which leads to scorching and wear of the contacts.

6 MONTHS WITHOUT FILMAX

After six months without using the Filmax filtration system, oil analysis from Bank #3 showed the oil was within service levels but below the specifications of the new oil at the beginning of the test. The oil analysis revealed an increase in acid levels (.010), which could indicate the initial stages of oxidation. Visual inspection of Bank #3 revealed an extreme buildup of carbon contamination and a heavy buildup of varnish (filming) on the contacts.

Filmax filtration will maintain insulating oil at new or better-than-new oil levels by removing and controlling water, carbon, and oxidation by product contamination. Filmax extends the life and effectiveness of insulating oil. Maintaining LTC’s with ultra clean insulating oil prevents over-arcing, which minimizes contact scorching, reduces normal contact wear and extends contact and component life
